Special Children's Christmas Party in New Zealand

The force was strong in New Zealand on the 15th of July, as troopers united for a wonderful cause!

One of our members, Deborah Chick, recently travelled 2,576 kilometres to attend a troop in New Plymouth, New Zealand with members from Outpost 42 and Kamino Clan.

The three troopers were met by Mark Wikstrom, the founder of the Special Children’s Christmas Parties NZ. The Special Children's Christmas Parties (SCCP) have been running in New Zealand for more than 15 years. Each year the events get bigger and better with new and exciting entertainment and toys for the children, and they are now regarded as the largest events of their kind in New Zealand for special needs children.

Working closely with hundreds of charities, schools, community groups and government organisations throughout New Zealand, SCCP host events throughout the country for disadvantaged children. These kids may suffer from life threatening illness, physical and intellectual impairment, domestic violence, or live in underprivileged circumstances.

"This event has had a huge impact on me. I feel so humbled to be able to attend an event in another country,” Deborah said.

Dressed as the characters Bazine Netal, Captain Rex, and a Mandalorian Mercenary, the troopers spent the day with over 750 children, and joined in the festivities, dishing out high-fives, fist-bumps and engaging with kids of all ages.

The kids were treated with stage shows and performances, games and activities, as well as a trip to the giant Toy Cave where children are given high-quality toys to call their own.

“I am actually struggling to put into words how amazing this event was. My face has never hurt so much from smiling! The volunteers, the children, the friends and family who accompanied them to the event – they all were amazing,” Deborah commented.
