Empire and Rebellion unite for the Lismore Lantern Parade

On Saturday June 24, troopers from the northern NSW region of the Southern Cross Garrison, joined by members of Queensland’s Redback Garrison and the Rebel Legion, participated in the annual Lismore Lantern Parade.

Due to recent floods, the Lantern Parade was at risk of not proceeding, however, with the resilience of volunteers approximately 100 lanterns were stripped back, cleaned, rewired and re-papered allowing the event to continue.

Before sunset, the Star Wars characters posed for photos and collected donations to raise funds for the non-profit Lismore Lantern Parade.

Sporting their own custom Star Wars lanterns and the illumination of Lightsabers, the troop lead the parade from the market through to Oakes Oval. They were followed by a band playing John Williams’ iconic Star Wars theme.

Darth Vader proved to be particularly popular, inciting cheers for “Vader, Darth Vader!” from parade onlookers.

The Southern Cross Garrison is thankful to the members of the Redback Garrison and Rebel Legion for volunteering their time and travelling from as far as Toowoomba and Brisbane to participate in the event making another brilliant impression on the City of Lismore.
