Kicking this back off after it was lost.....

Forum name: shadan

TKID: 81194

Approved character: Imperial Line Officer (Olive Drab)

Why you chose: I’ve sold Officer rank badges all around the world now and figured it was time I got myself a costume too!

Something about myself: I’ve only ever ordered the one type of sub from Subway... Sweet Onion Chicken Teriyaki! It’s perfect!

Hello troopers!
This post is designed to give a bit of look into the image requirements for new costume applications.
The more information you can provide, the better!

DOs
- Do take photos in well-lit areas. Natural lighting is best if possible
- Do have your photographer take the photos square-on, from waist-height to avoid any warping of the image
- Do forward the highest resolution images that you can
- Do take your pictures in front of a plain background which makes your costume distinct

DONTs
- Don't compress or edit your images (general cropping is fine)
- Don't take your photos while in direct sunlight or in areas which cause heavy shadows
- Don't take your photos in front of busy backgrounds, eg Bricks, floral wallpapers, crowds of people

The following are some examples of the photos to send through to gml@501scg.org
At a MINIMUM, please include photos of the following:
- Front
- Back
- Left Side
- Left Side with your arms up (if there are under arm details in the costume)
- Right Side
- Right Side with your arms up (if there are under arm details in the costume)
- Waist up with bucket on
- Waist up with bucket off
- Action Pose (Something that will be used on social media/legion profiles)

NOTE: If something is written in the CRL, the GMLs will need to see it so please ensure everything is visible so we can assess it properly.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS
While the examples above are the minimum that we ask for, anything extra you can provide will help us when conducting our assessment. Close ups of your bucket (helmet) are a great help for example.
A general rule of thumb is any detail or item that is in the Costume Reference Library (CLR) we will need to see.
This could include the number of stitch lines in a piece of fabric or the curve of a lens.
The more information you provide, the easier and quicker the process will be!

Forum Terms & Rules

Full registration to the Southern Cross Garrison forums requires active membership with the 501st Legion. Registration applications will be manually checked against the 501st active membership database (your email must match). If you do not register using your TK-ID as your username, you will need to post a request in this thread, following the instructions in the first post. Please include your location in your profile information. (country will suffice)

General registration does not require 501st membership, but you will be restricted to posting in the open forums only.

Please remember that we are not responsible for any messages posted. We do not vouch for or warrant the accuracy, completeness or usefulness of any message, and are not responsible for the contents of any message. It is impossible for the forum staff to review every message.

RULES:

1. No profanity. Please keep it G/PG rated. While younger folks normally don't read this list, they might be reading over Daddy or Mommy's shoulder. Also G/PG language helps to keep tempers cool. Repeat offenders will be subject to Disciplinary actions

2. No "flaming". If you really feel you must argue, KEEP IT OFF-LIST OR TAKE IT "OFF-LIST". This includes no trolling/baiting (i.e. posting in such a manner as to intentionally provoke a negative response).

3. The contents of personal mail are personal. If the original sender did not post to this forum, DO NOT post copies or replies to this forum. If it warrants, privately inform your Garrison Chain of Command and if your Garrison CO deems it necessary, the Legion Council.

4. Please truncate messages (refrain from quoting previous posts) when possible as a courtesy to those getting e-mail digests from this forum.

5. If you don't like getting lots of e-mails, limit your notifications, digests, and subscriptions through your Preferences link.

6. Please try to keep posts as "On Topic" as possible (i.e. related to 501st events, activities, votes, armour mods, etc.). When posting a new topic or a response to a topic, please pause and think. Remember that your post will be visible to all the members of this group and may not necessarily contribute to a particular thread.

7. Sales of merchandise. Please keep all "non-501st" sales/trades posts limited to our "For Sale/For Trade" forum and the rules listed there. Official and approved 501st merchandise should ONLY be offered to 501st members through the " Official Southern Cross Garrison & 501st Merchandise" of this board and the 501st Legion Forums. Official merchandise is to be sold at cost. Exceptions to this might include a fundraiser where any profit would go to charity or to fund additional 501st merchandise as gifts or giveaways. Appropriate sales include official 501st merchandise that bears the 501st name or logo (including Garrisons, Squads, and other 501st groups) and that have been approved by the Legion Merchandise Officer. If you are not sure if your merchandise qualifies as "official", ask the Legion Merchandise Officer (see 501st.com to find out who currently serves in this position). To have your merchandise information posted in the Merchandise forum, email all the details, including a link to the artwork, to the Legion Merchandise Officer.

8. NO discussion of politics or religion. Any posts should relate to 501st business or Star Wars related topics with the exception of the “Off Topic forum”.

9. Controversial topics that need resolution at the Garrison/Legion Council level should not attempt resolution in general discussion areas. Posts that bring attention to these issues are permitted, but Moderators reserve the right to lock/move or remove topics that are out of control and no longer productive due to excessive opinionated or repetitive posts.

DISCIPLINARY ACTION: To be fair, violators of any of these guidelines will be given 2 warnings and their offending posts may be edited or deleted. The 3rd violation will result in restricted posting abilities for a one-week period. With an established history of violations that include restricted posting, repeat offenders may be placed on immediate posting restriction or moderation without warning. Severe violations such as blatant and hateful attacks may result in instant posting restrictions, without the benefit of a warning. The moderators of this board will attempt to be as fair and unbiased as possible, and have been selected based upon their ability and demonstrated history to act as such. But there are times when an individual may be made an example of...don't be this person! The Moderators word is FINAL, please do not aggravate a situation further by arguing over a decision to edit/moderate.

Thank you.

Everything you need to know to join the 501st Legion and Southern Cross Garrison
Posted by: shadan - 03-03-2019, 03:02 PM - Forum: How to join the 501st Legion - No Replies

Hello and welcome!

This thread is a basic 'How to' guide to joining the 501st Legion and Southern Cross Garrison.

There really are just five basic steps to the whole process:
1. Be 18 or over
2. Have a movie-quality costume;
3. Ensure the costume meets all the Costume Reference Library (CRL) requirements;
4. Apply on the main 501st Legion Website; and
5. Submit your photos to the Southern Cross Garrison Membership Liaison (GML)

Let's go into each step with a little more detail and clarification.

1. Be 18 or over

All our members are required to 18 years of age or over.
But for those younglings who still want to do their part in the galaxy, there's the Galactic Academy.

2. Have a movie-quality costume

This is the heart and soul of it all. As a Legion, we basically want to look as though we stepped out of the screen and into the general public. There are many types of costumes and many ways to acquire them.
Often costumes will be sold in kits which have to be built, painted and assembled to fit the wear.
Sometimes costumes can be bought complete and ready to wear.
The key point though is that the costume fits YOU. Should a submitted costume be ill-fitting you may be asked to make alterations.

3. Ensure the costume meets all the Costume Reference Library (CRL) requirements

Each approvable costume has a CRL which is used when judging submissions.
The CRLs can all be found here: http://databank.501st.com/databank/Costuming:CRL
It is important that you check that each and every part of your costume meets these requirements.
A good way of ensuring this is to start a build thread here on the forums: https://www.501scg.org/forum/forumdisplay.php?fid=18
Update your thread as you build or acquire items and ask questions. If something isn't quite right, someone may point it out let you know the best way to fix it.
It's also highly recommended that you signup on a Detachment forum as well. Detachments specialise in a few costumes so they really are the experts.

4. Apply on the main 501st Legion Website

This step is easy.
Just click here: www.501st.com/members/join_form.php
Fill out all the required fields and hit submit!

5. Submit your photos to the Southern Cross Garrison Membership Liaison (GML)

You are almost there. The last step is having your costume approved by the Garrison Member Liaison!
To do this, you should take several high quality photos of your costume. Take them from the Front, Back, Both Sides, with your Hands Up and if you wear a bucket (a helmet) take one without a bucket on.
Additionally, include any other photos to highlight things that may not be immediately obvious in the other photos.
Things like hook and eye clips in an Imperial Officer's tunic or the black vest of a Biker Scout.

It is important to use good lighting, and make sure there is a plain (as possible) background behind you.
Take photos from waist height so as not to create any distortion.
Once you have your approval pictures ready, you can click here to send them to the GML.

And that is it!
Good luck, and we look forward to seeing you join our ranks.
