Image Requirements - andylah - 06-03-2019

Hello troopers!
This post is designed to give a bit of look into the image requirements for new costume applications.
The more information you can provide, the better!

DOs
- Do take photos in well-lit areas. Natural lighting is best if possible
- Do have your photographer take the photos square-on, from waist-height to avoid any warping of the image
- Do forward the highest resolution images that you can
- Do take your pictures in front of a plain background which makes your costume distinct

DONTs
- Don't compress or edit your images (general cropping is fine)
- Don't take your photos while in direct sunlight or in areas which cause heavy shadows
- Don't take your photos in front of busy backgrounds, eg Bricks, floral wallpapers, crowds of people

The following are some examples of the photos to send through to gml@501scg.org
At a MINIMUM, please include photos of the following:
- Front
- Back
- Left Side
- Left Side with your arms up (if there are under arm details in the costume)
- Right Side
- Right Side with your arms up (if there are under arm details in the costume)
- Waist up with bucket on
- Waist up with bucket off
- Action Pose (Something that will be used on social media/legion profiles)

NOTE: If something is written in the CRL, the GMLs will need to see it so please ensure everything is visible so we can assess it properly.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS
While the examples above are the minimum that we ask for, anything extra you can provide will help us when conducting our assessment. Close ups of your bucket (helmet) are a great help for example.
A general rule of thumb is any detail or item that is in the Costume Reference Library (CLR) we will need to see.
This could include the number of stitch lines in a piece of fabric or the curve of a lens.
The more information you provide, the easier and quicker the process will be!

When posting bucket photos here is a good tip!

Quote:Taking pictures of your helmet to share with others during your build?
To help get the best advice, try taking your photos from a few feet back with little zoom added. Perhaps around 6 feet with 2x zoom (if using iPhone).
As below, the helmet proportions will look much closer to how the human eye sees it.

Another photo we need but don't get a lot of the time is an Action Pose! This is used on our social medias to introduce new costumes/costumers as wellas the framesets used witin the Legion Database, so when applying please ensure you attach an action shot as well!!!

and for those with white armor access a good note on action photos that we use:

Quote:It makes our job a lot easier editing your images into the Expert Infantry Honor frames if you use a contrasting blank background when taking your action photos for your EI applications.

Contrasting is not using a white/light or black/dark background while wearing black and white, it just doesn't work. Also taking photos outdoors, in sunlight, in the garden or in front of brick walls really makes our job harder.

A simple solution is using a colored sheet or a tarpaulin.
